Komen’s Recommendations
for Good Breast Health

Breast cancer knows no boundary be it age, gender, socio-economic status, or geographical location. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The key to survival is early detection.

Be Aware --- Take Action

Make these changes part of your life. You are the cure.

1. Annual mammography beginning at age 40
2. Clinical breast exams at least every three years beginning at age 20 and annually at age 40
3. Monthly breast self-examinations for all women beginning at age 20

SUPPORT THE CAUSE / MAKE A DONATION

Since 2001, the Western New York Affiliate has raised more than $2 million to fund local community-based breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment programs.  Please consider making a donation to help us in our mission.  There are several options you may choose from in directing your gift:

  • Make a general donation to the Komen WNY Affiliate
  • Make a donation in honor or in memory of a loved one
  • Donate on behalf of a Race participant or Race team
  • Make a donation to the Race for the Cure general fund
  • Purchase a tree or planting in the Susan G. Komen Commemorative Grove at Delaware Park

Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been named a top-rated charity by Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities, for a second year in a row.

Charity Navigator's award of four out of a possible four stars indicates that we excel, as compared to other charities in America, in successfully managing our organizational finances in an efficient and effective manner. This is an exceptional feat, especially given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year.

We raised more than $275 million in revenue for the fiscal year ending March 1, 2007, and received a 63.34 rating—exceeding last year's 63.25 rating.

About Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator prides itself on guiding intelligent giving. The organization strives to supply charitable donors with confidence in charities before they commit their financial support. Charity Navigator's rating system evaluates two broad areas of a charity's financial health: organizational efficiency and organizational capacity. The ratings show potential donors how efficiently Charity Navigator believes a charity will use donor support right now, and how the organization is positioned to continue providing programs and services in the future.

Charity Navigator provides the ratings so that donors can make intelligent giving decisions, and the philanthropic community can more effectively monitor itself.
